Work With Us

Being part of the Lutheridge summer staff is being a part of a dedicated team. Summer staff life is filled with opportunities for Christian ministry, fellowship, growth, self-giving, and support.

Find your place on staff.

Counselors at Lutheridge lead in more than one place. Here’s where a summer on staff can take you.

In a cabin.

Lutheridge is primarily an overnight residential camp. Lead a cabin group through the week, from Bible study to evening vespers to Cabin Time before bed.

On the road.

Counselors also get the opportunity to travel around the southeast, leading day camps at local congregations.

On the trail.

In the Outdoor Adventure Program, counselors lead challenging adventures like rafting, zip lines and hiking, and take campers out on the Appalachian Trail.

Leading the leaders.

Area directors and other senior staff train and support the counselors.

“Where do I want to lead from this week?”

Each week on staff, counselor groups look at the schedule ahead and at each other’s strengths and growing areas. Then they ask that question.

  1. the back
  2. the middle
  3. the front

“I’m not an up-front person. I never have been.”

Grace had been a camper for years before her first summer on staff. Talking that question through with her group, she tried leading from the back, the middle and the front.

How we get you ready.

Training comes before the first camper arrives, and your staff team meets every week of the summer.

Staff training.

Orientation at Lutheridge covers the heart of each night at camp, like Cabin Time, when campers recall their highs, lows and God moments.

A prayer partner group.

In her first summer, Grace leaned on her summer staff prayer partner group: “We became close, and I could share my worries and hopes with them.”

Ready for the trail.

Outdoor Adventure Program area directors train counselors and prepare them to take campers out on the Appalachian Trail.

“The preparation that goes into developing counselors to lead campers and keep them safe offsite is immense and cannot be stressed enough.”

Faith Goyne, Lutheridge Outdoor Adventure Program area director in 2022

Cannot say enough great things about the type of training and preparation the program directors do with the counselors and the care, modeling and sharing the counselors do with the campers.
