The NovusWay Board is comprised of 15 board members and 4 Bishops. These individuals all serve on the board and bring unique perspectives and gifts. What unites them all is a love for the vision of NovusWay and camping ministry. Throughout 2026, we will feature one or two members each month and share how they support the ministry of NovusWay in their board service.
This month we introduce Floyd Self.
Floyd Self, NovusWay past President, board service 2021-2028

Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
I am a newlywed, celebrating one-year of marriage in April to my beloved Sandy, who has changed my life. Our combined family has 3 sons, one daughter-in-law, and as of January this year, a grandson. Sandy and I live in Tallahassee, Florida where I am a board-certified attorney practicing regulatory utility law Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas, and Florida. But my passion is serving as a servant leader. I have extensive board service and leadership that I have provided at Grace Lutheran Church, Scouting America, the Energy Bar Association, the Challenger Learning Center, Leadership Tallahassee, Youth Leadership Tallahassee, Knight Creative Communities, and other organizations.
What is your history with NovusWay?
I first came to Lutheridge way back in the day when our young pastor, Bill Trexler, brought our high school youth group for a week of leadership, fellowship, and growing closer to God. While in college, the rest of my family would spend time at Lutheridge each summer, and I managed to visit for a day or two. Many years later, my lifelong friend asked if I could bring my leadership training and board experience to NovusWay. Our church over the years has supported both Luther Springs and Lutherock, but I finally visited both once on the board, and I have come to appreciate the great value each of our camps offers.
What is your goal for your board service?
My goal for NovusWay is the same for any board – to provide dedicated, thoughtful leadership. Every board experience is different, but NovusWay these last few years has had a number of significant challenges that has truly tested the board. I am extremely proud and grateful for the leadership this board has provided in the face of some exceedingly complex and difficult matters. Board leadership may not always make you popular, but without true leadership, an organization won’t survive its tough times. This organization has not just survived, but it is now set on a course to really grow and bring this ministry to new people and places while continuing to build and strengthen the faith of those who have supported our camps over the years. It is a joy to see the future of NovusWay and what so many people have built.
What is something fun about you?
I love photography, especially taking pictures of nature and the people I serve in the various programs I work with. My house and office are full of photographs I have taken of some of the beautiful places I have visited and some of the great adventures I have undertaken. Seeing the faces of the young Scouts I once led, or the grandeur of the Grand Canyon or Glacier national parks, reminds me that every day is a gift, and that I need to always be focused on giving back to others.
