Executive Leadership Transition – Update

The NovusWay Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Bishop Emeritus Leonard Bolick of the North Carolina Synod has accepted the position as Acting Interim Executive Director.  Bishop Bolick has strong ties to the ministry as his children Sarah and Joseph both worked at camp and he served on the board during his tenure as bishop.  We hope you will join us in welcoming him as he joins the team.

Bishop Bolick will begin his role on Monday August 23, 2021 and will serve until a longer term intentional interim Executive Director can be named.

Among his first priorities Bishop Bolick will check in and get acquainted with the staff at all four sites.  He will also reach out to former staff to care for them in their transition.   We will be in touch with you soon to share how any of you, who wish to do so, can join us in thanking our former staff for their contributions and dedicated service.

Over the coming weeks, Bishop Bolick will establish intentional times to check in with different constituencies through scheduled Zoom meetings and other small group and individual conversations. Information will be shared through the NovusWay website and social media platforms about this schedule.

As Bishop Bolick facilitates operational issues, the NovusWay Board is turning their attention to developing a Transition Advisory Task Force, developing the job description for the Intentional Interim Executive Director, program coverage at Lutheridge and Lutheranch, and caring for the year- round staff.

To aid in facilitating these many transitions as well as keeping an eye on the future, the NovusWay Board has secured the services of GSB consultant Anne Rieck McFarland to work with the Board as well as Bishop Bolick  (and the intentional interim once named) and eventually the next permanent Executive Director.  She has over 25 years experience in non-profit executive and board leadership.  GSB guided NovusWay in fundraising from 1994 to 2014 and has been working with outdoor ministries since 1976.

With the rise of COVID-19 cases and staff restructuring some of our fall programming will be affected.  We know how important these programs are but we need to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all involved.  We will inform you of the final decisions regarding Fall programs next week.

We are thankful for your commitment to our camps and ask for your prayers and continued support.
