Updates from the CEOs

Hey Camp Friends,

Wow, what a summer! So much has happened over these last weeks to build community, form faith, and develop leaders. Summer staff from around the world—literally—were trained at our various sites to shepherd God’s children through a powerful week of summer camp. Grandparents Camp, Family Camp, and Lutheroad Day Camps continue to be the ministry’s fastest-growing programs. As the summer comes to a close, we pause to reflect on what God is up to in these holy places. The stories found in this edition of the LINK are a witness to God’s presence and the continued importance of having vital camping ministries for the church and the community.

As we look back at our time here since late November, we are pleased to share that the ministry is operating in the black for 2024, and we have started paying back some of our internal debt. The efficiencies we have put into place are bearing fruit. We have an increase in the number of groups who want to rent our spaces year-round. We are renewing programming at Lutheranch with a Family Advent Retreat. YOU – our camp friends – are showing renewed generosity. We are on a strong path toward sustainability, and we are doing that together – staff, churches, volunteers, and donors. Thank you, camp friends!

We have both had the opportunity to connect with many of you at our sites, on Zoom, or the phone. With each conversation, we are reminded, through your stories, of the power of camp. When we drive through the gate at Lutheranch, cross the creek at Lutherock, make our way up the driveway at Lutheridge, or stand on the dock at Luther Springs, the Holy Spirit fills our hearts and minds, wrapping us in a sense of belonging and comfort. There is no place we would rather be.

Plans for next summer have already begun, but you need not wait until then to be at camp. Gather your family for a retreat, register your church group for one of our year-round programs, or come to camp on your own and find respite. Camp is here for you year-round. The Holy Spirit is here to meet you where you are so you can return home renewed and refreshed.

With Gratitude,

Mike & Mitzie
