Outdoor Volunteer Days at Lutheranch January 5-7, 2021

Volunteer Week at Lutheranch

There’s no better way to start the new year than spending time outdoors in God’s beautiful creation with other friendly people volunteering for a good cause. Join us at Lutheranch on January 5-7, 2021, at 9am-5pm, to help with grounds clean-up and maintenance work as we prepare for the return of guests and campers this Spring/Summer. The main project will be clearing brush and trees from the backside of the McKanna-Sandrock Retreat Center to allow guests to enjoy a clear view of Lake Stender from the back patio. We will also be doing trail maintenance, clearing overgrown branches and downed trees, to provide safe trails for hikers and horseback riders to use.

Who will be leading the projects?

Craig Rieger, VP of Facilities at NovusWay, and Shane Dathe, Lutheranch Facilities Manager, will be leading the projects and operating the heavy equipment (chain saws, woodchippers, log splitters, etc.), along with several other members of the Lutherock and Lutheranch staff.

What should I bring?

• Warm clothes that can get dirty
• Sturdy shoes
• Warm jacket
• Raincoat (we will be working rain or shine)
• Facemask
• Hand sanitizer
• Re-useable water bottle
• Work gloves and safety glasses (Lutheranch will have extras on hand)
• Optional: tree trimmers, loppers, shears, or other garden tools

What about food and lodging?

Volunteers are invited to come for the day or stay overnight and work two or three days. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all volunteers. Dinner and free overnight accommodations at the retreat center are provided to those working multiple days. Interested in helping prepare and serve meals? We could use another pair of hands in the kitchen. Just let us know your interest and availability when you sign-up.

What precautions are being taken for COVID-19?

The projects will take place outdoors and most of the work will be socially distanced. All volunteers are required to wear a facemask whenever going indoors or working near other volunteers or staff. Hand sanitizer will be available, and meals will be served individually or pre-packaged to avoid any cross contamination.

How do I sign-up to volunteer?

Email cyarnold@novusway.org and include your name, contact email and phone number, and the number of people in your group (provide ages for anyone under 18). Specify which day(s) you are planning to volunteer and whether you need overnight accommodations. Also provide information on any food allergies/preferences.

We look forward to welcoming you to Lutheranch!
